An All Time Record!

You may recall that back in March, 2010 we asked for your participation in the Allan Shawn Feinstein Foundation $1 million challenge for hunger relief on behalf of the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries (GWCM) food bank.

The results of that fundraiser have just been received.  Mr. Feinstein’s $1 million offer raised a remarkable $230 million nationwide from almost 2,000 anti-hunger agencies.  This is the most successful campaign of all times to fight hunger in America.

Because of the great success of the Feinstein challenge, each participant’s portion of the $1 million was, of course, proportionally very small.  The GWCM share was $287.  This may seem disappointing, but this is a generous donation to this this ministry. Further, the Feinstein challenge, spurred our total giving between April & May to $15,547 in cash and food donations.

Thank you to all who made this campaign a success.  Your donations are well spent.  Our all-volunteer staff and the utilization of space and facilities within our faith communities allow the GWCM to spend more than $.99 of every dollar donated for the direct purchase of food for your neighbors, many of whom are experiencing hunger for the first time in their lives.  Please continue your support of this ministry with your time, financial & food donations.

 Greater Woodbury CROP Hunger Walk

It was hot and muggy, but so worth it! Our total contributions to the Church World Service for this years walk were $12,986.00.  This will be used for hunger program around the world and in our neighborhood. This year 25% of total contributions from this walk are to be given to the GWCM.

Since 1997, the Greater Woodbury Walk has contributed a total of $184,082 to the Church World Service. This is AWESOME! Thank you to all who walked, contributed, and to the churches & organizers of this event throughout the years.

2010 CROP Walk

Please remember the GREATER WOODBURY CROP HUNGER WALK
 May 2, 2010

Funds raised will support hunger relief around the world as well as in Woodbury and its surrounding communities.  This year, as in the past,  25% of all money raised at the May 2, CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk will
support the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries food pantries.

Sign-up to be a walker or sponsor someone to walk for you.  The 6 mile walk begins at 2 pm (registration 1:30 pm) from the United Methodist Church in Mantua, 201 Mantua Blvd., Mantua and ends at St. Stephens Lutheran Church

on Evergreen Ave. in Woodbury.   All walkers are asked to bring a jar of peanut butter to the registration.

If 6 miles is too challenging…walk less. Vehicles will be available along the route to pick up those with protesting feet and knees.  The walk is symbolic, ½ mile is as meaningful as 6. Water & free refreshments are available along the route and at the finish.
